Crazy for SKPC

Want to know the asli reason(s) why Dabangg-2 is being delayed? No, it's not because Salman Khan has no dates.

That's abominable, to think he won't make time for the sequel of a home production that has been his biggest hit. The truth lies elsewhere. There is huge bidding going on for the film. Two major cinema corporations are locked in battle over who will bag the sequel. One has made an offer for Rs 110 crores, the second is willing to buy the first corporation out, apparently money is not a criteria.

A trade source adds insight into what's happening, " Arbaaz Khan has been flooded with offers, the latest math is that he has been offered Rs 16 crores for the remake rights, this kind of money is enough to tempt a saint." However, even as the bids get higher for the sequel that will have Salman, Sonakshi Sinha, Arbaaz, Malaika Arora Khan, Sonu Sood and Vinod Khanna, the buzz is that the film's original director, Abhinav Kashyap — whose labour of love Dabangg was, is now acting pricey.

Bollywood sources say Abhinav has been signed by a leading film corporation for Rs 5 crores for his next film. He will be paid another Rs 5 crores during the making. So his market value stands at Rs 10 crores. Obviously, Abhinav now wants a price hike to direct Dabangg-2. And one for the reasons why the sequel is in a limbo is because Arbaaz and Abhinav have to sort out this prickly issue.

Arbaaz wearily says, "I am not at liberty to discuss what offers are being made and by whom. Nor do I wish to comment on the mathematics because the kind of figures the market is attributing to the sequel, is not surprising. Dabangg is worth big money, it is a proven franchise."

But, he admits, "We have to lock a script in. Salman bhai's dates have to be sorted. He is committed to outside projects and we may only go on the floors in the last quarter of 2011. If a sequel hits the market two years later, it is considered a fair time span." As for the 'money issue' between Abhinav and him, Arbaaz laughs, "Abhinav is on board for the sequel, as of now. I don't wish to discuss the money. We are fair people and obviously he will be paid what is his rightful due."

Meanwhile, Salman is slated to start Bodyguard with Kareena Kapoor on January 16, in Pune. It will release on August 31, for Ramzan Eid. The actor is currently completing Ready with Asin. That should release on May 27. He is committed to Sajid Nadiadwala's Kick... and Dabangg-2, both with Sonakshi. Either film could go on the floors sometime around September depending on who has his script locked in.
